Real ecomonists are now talking about the impending "S" to hit the fan

Good call man. That's my conclusion. If shtf doesn't happen soon, I don't see the majority of our fellow citizens moving away from hopey changey socialism and have concluded that my kids need to keep the mindset.

Real ecomonists are now talking about the impending "S" to hit the fan

I think gold and silver are a good investment for the interim period between now and total shtf. During WWII (sort of an interim period, since civilization survived) people in Europe made it across borders, etc. because they'd stashed a little gold.

      The Best Bulk Food Prices

You bring up an interesting point, but it's more complicated than that, I think. I agree with eat what you store, but if the shtf, you actually want that higher fat / higher calories. That's the stuff that keeps you alive.

What have you done this week to prep?

Bought a Mossberg 12 gauge to replace my single shot break open. That said, I'm very pleased to see so many people making preps unrelated to guns and ammo. The guys whose plan = firepower are only preparing to be our biggest problem and won't last long anyway. Good comments about eye glasses...

SHTF: Do you take the dog?

Gotta bring the dog. The earliest domestication of dogs was for use as sentries; they simply hear and sense approachers earlier than we do. A good tip I read for small - midsize dogs in a shtf scenario is to feed them small rodents. Buy a few mouse traps at your dollar store and catch your...

      In regards: Gold

I disagree. First, in terms of "heavy", what can you carry that is lighter but more valuable than gold? 10 lbs of gold is worth over $160k today. You can buy gold in .1 ounce coins, the size of dimes. Each would be worth $100 today, so you can use them for barter. I don't think anyone will...

      getting started with the basics??

Agreed. Go through your day and ask yourself, what if SHTF right now? Can you get from work to home? Connect with your family, and do they know what to do? Do you keep enough gas in your car at all times to avoid having to stop? Or, if you have to ditch the car, do you have the things with...

Will you REALLY survive SHTF? Unlikely.

There are two types of people on these forums: (a) the a-holes who say "all I need is mah guns and ammo" and (b) people who really want to be prepared, with plenty of food, and who now must prepare for the a-holes.

      Bug out gun

I think people should be more worried about what food they are going to store, or grow, than what weapons they have. If you have food stored, and want weapons for defense of it, that's different. But to have no food and plenty of guns means that you are very likely going to become a bandit or...

SHTF food, if you could only pick 1 canned item.

If you're talking about what to buy, go for calories. Kroger's version of Spam, called Treat, goes for $.99 a can. Hard to beat that in terms of calories per $. You can supplement this stuff with wild edibles, or stock up on multi-vitamins for your vitamins and minerals.

What will you run out first in a SHTF event

OPSEC You can tell people here about your preps; but you need to be quieter with people who know you.

What will you run out first in a SHTF event

Nicotine Fix My tobacco store sells little snuff pills called "Stonewall". You use them like Copenhagen. I think they're about $3 for a pack of $20, and I also use them to get through long meetings at work. They store extremely well, and every smoker or dipper ought to have at least a...

Your children don't live with you....how are you going to get them when SHTF?

I think if SHTF, we have a responsibility to protect our kids, whether they live with us or not; and whether the ex is remarried or not. Obviously, from the perspective of a SHTF scenario, it'd be better if mom and dad were together. If not, a next best plan would be to try to be near by...
