      thanks guys, i knew there was better stuff out there, I just couldn't remember the names of them. now as for surface prep, the best I know of is using a sandblasted surface that's been degreased. the texture of the metal after blasting holds paint pretty darn well, so whatever stuff i use...

      I don't know if it's shiny enough for you, but Norrells Moly-Resin comes in a stainless steel color that replicates the look of glass beaded stainless. I've been considering having my 1911 frame done in this for a two tone look.

      I don't think that all civilian glasses are quite as indestructable as BCG's, as thick as those frames were. I don't remember seeing a single broken pair in Basic. Saw a pair ducktaped to a private's head once, but never any broken ones.

      I couldn't find a link, but it has been done. It was called the explorer II pistol. the barrel was not interchangable between the rifle and pistol receivers to keep it NFA approved.
