Had a rear sight blade that was initially serrated, but the serrations were sanded smooth. The pistol's owner wanted serrations re-cut. The rear sight blade had a radius from hand sanding and had to be machined flat before the serrations could be cut. Lines per inch was about 47'ish...
Got the Haimer setup and used it to accurately measure the I.D. of the stainless steel Phoenix Trinity grip. I ended up having to remove .005" from each side of the mating area of the frame in order for the grip to slip fit into place.
Love to post a picture of the Bomar-style sights that I should be installed, but I had the wrong dovetail cutter on hand... Now the slide is clogging up the vise :xmad:, but that was my mistake. Going to get a jump on some more frame checkering while I am waiting for the cutter to arrive.
I have a 2011 that I am building along with the 1911 and thought that I would post these pics as well in a separate thread instead of combining the 2011 pics with the 1911...
I have already cut the frame rails on the milling machine. I am now fitting the slide and frame together. From this...
I already checked the condition of the breech face when I received the slide, so I knew that it was square and to spec. I polished off the bead blasting to nearly a mirror finish. I will give it some more attention prior to fitting the barrel. The most important thing is to not remove a lot of...
Working over the slide a bit before I get back to fitting the frame and the grip safety... The stripper rail was straight and flat, which was good. It only took a few passes with a light file and some stones to remove the machine marks (which are not easily seen in the picture). The rail will be...
There is a ton of resources out there, and one could very well be here on INGO! There are a LOT of top-tier builders posting videos on YouTube and on other forums. There are also some forums dedicated to 80% builds, though I am not familiar with them.

Churchmouse, I called Kennametal and they said that is not uncommon with the DA style collets... They are allowing me to return it and I will have to find an ER collet chuck with a small enough diameter to clear the fixture.
CHurchmouse is correct, slide to frame fit is a very important part of the overall accuracy potential of a 1911. The best fit barrel in the world will still be affected by a loose slide to frame fit. It is nearly impossible to ask a barrel to have consistent, repeatable lockup when two parts...
Churchmouse, I am not sure what is going on with this collet, but it doesn't seem to want to lock. I will call Kennametal in the morning and see what they suggest.
