The Kimber Custom is a great gun and is in the price range you mentioned. I just added a Kimber Raptor Pro II last week. Its very well made. (Pics avail here.)

I have a Mossburg 930 SPX Auto. Never failed me, shoots well, have yet to find something it cannot shoot. I trust it. And, it is flat fun to empty it out on some targets.

If its outdoor for rifle, weather appropriate. Jeans in cooler months, shorts in warmer months. Maybe a hat or shirt that has a gun vendor or saying on it. Other than that, just another day.

I have a POF-308. Its very accurate out to 750 which is the longest range I have access to right now. I found one for about $2300 new with a 20". Don't forget a good optic. I have a NightForce 5.5-22 on it and love it.
LOL. I hear you. I have VZ grips on my other 1911's. This is to be a tool (all be it a sexy one) that I will carry at times. I like the CTs on my M&Ps and added it to this one for the same reasons. At least I went with the rosewood over the plastic grips. That should count a little bit. :-)
Still an addict. This past week I added a Kimber Raptor Pro 45. The photos show it with the original grips and the added mag-well extension. I then added a Crimson Trace Masters Series rosewood Laser grip to it.
