I have a scout scope on my SBL in 45-70. I worked fine. It took a little getting used to. I recently replaced it with a Leupold extended eye relief scope. Not a full scout style, but easy to mount much farther forward than traditional scope. I like it very much.

A horrible incident! I do find it odd that there was no report of any wounded at the scene. Usually events like this have a high percentage of wounded victims. 14 minutes was a long time before the shooter was killed by law enforcement. Just curious...
You cant' really make a bad decision here. I am a big .44 Mag fan though. Extremely versatile if you hand load or a large variety of factory ammo is available. My Ruger Super Blackhawks make great companions for my .44 leverguns.
