Thanks for the response, it helps quite a bit with putting things into perspective. If you could only have one, would you keep the 16" or the full-size?
I remember back in the day it was always Glocks blowing up, and it usually was blamed on an "unsupported chamber". So the Glock chamber is supported now? I'm confused.
For those of you with the SOCOM 16s, are you happy with that barrel length or do you find yourselves wishing you went longer? I can't kick the idea that I need an M1A in my life (already have a couple of Garands), but am not sure what barrel length I want.
The OP asked what our favorite full/duty-size 9mm was, and also said he's looking for one and prefers an optic-ready striker. I figured it was two questions.
Found this little guy on our nightly walk this evening. He was all dried out and crawling out of a bean field. I deposited him down the road in the swamp.
Sunset wasn't bad, either. It was unseasonably hot today, but it cooled off nicely this evening. Looks like they've started cutting the corn.
I'm kinda with you. Never been a big fan of the PPK-ish look. Don't hate it, but don't get particularly excited about it, either. I'm also not a big fan of blowback actions.
I think the P22X guns are pretty aesthetically appealing in a traditional and confident sort of way. They look exactly...
While that thing looks cool as heck, the worst gun I ever owned (not counting a Jennings J-22) was a PSA 9mm AR. My vote is spent an extra $500 and get an MP5 clone. Because they're just as awesome and Christmas is coming an Nakatomi Plaza may need defending! If she objects, make her watch Die...
I'm not a great lover of the "New Sig" either, but don't let distaste for the company make you pass over the P220 Legion. Yes, the "Legion" marketing gimmick is stupid, but it meets all your criteria (or can be easily made to do so), and it's an awesome handgun.
IMO Stoeger is a little different than the other Turkish shotguns out there because they're actually owned by Beretta/Benelli, and that relationship has been in place for a long time. At one point they were building a Stoeger branded Beretta Cougar on Beretta tooling. I can't speak to it myself...
I listened to a podcast a few months ago from an Alaskan guide who took out a Brownie with a S&W Model 39 to save his fishing clients. It was loaded with Buffalo Bore Hard Cast, but I imagine his years of bear knowledge and skill with a handgun had as much or more to do with the outcome than the...
We picked up an M3000 for my son from the classifieds here about a month ago. He has about 400 rounds of target loads through it plus some assorted other stuff. It has been flawless, and he's very happy with it. I shot it some side by side with my A300 Outlander, and I was impressed. The...
Call up to Two Bear Arms in Etna Green and ask those guys. They do a lot of cowboy action shooting out there and have hosted nationals before. They tend to have a good amount of single-action inventory in their shop, and it's likely they'd be knowledgeable about Ruger's production and...
A bear's brain makes up a surprisingly small portion of the overall head, and isn't exactly where you might think it would be:

That looks like some pretty good stuff. I may need to pick some up and see how it does in my guns. I like the Gold Dots but I'm having trouble finding any.
ETA: They're sure proud of it! Just looked it up...MSRP is over $2/round! I like HSTs, but dang! I also don't see a .38+P version on their...
I am a big snubby fan, especially the centennial Smith and Wessons (340, 442, 642, 640, etc) because they are snagless and easy to draw. They make a great pocket gun. Safe to carry with a long heavy trigger pull, simple manual of arms, and extremely reliable. The airweights are light enough that...
From the article:
Shot placement, shot placement, shot placement. Just putting enough holes in it so it dies later doesn't do your buddy any good if it's actively mauling him right now. It took a vital hit to actually stop the attack. Note it was the .45 that put the bear down, not the 10mm...
There's not enough barrel length to fully burn all the propellent, so you get a huge fireball and lots of recoil and blast since much of it burns outside the barrel. You still get more velocity that you would with a .38+p, but usually not enough to be worth it.
Some loads like Speer's Gold Dot...
Beretta 92FS. I turned 21 in the middle of the .40 era, and really wanted a 96 because all my buddies were into .40. I couldn't find one and ended up stumbling into a used 92FS at the LGS and bought it. The guys gave me no end of crap for that at the time, but in hindsight I'm glad I ended up...
